Decision Support Systems
At RAL, ongoing research and development continues toward improving technology for decision-makers to increase public safety and for road, rail and airport efficiency. During the development of decision support systems, careful attention is given to sponsor and end-user needs and expectations. Meteorologists, air traffic controllers, government officials, airline officials, DOT road maintenance crews, and homeland security first responders are some of the users who employ these systems for warning and mitigation purposes in the event of hazardous weather, for the transport of airborne hazardous material and for defense against bio/chemical threats.
Many projects across RAL - Pentagon Shield, 4DWX, ATEC, Iraqi Freedom, MDSS and public weather (Olympics) - utilize these decision support systems.
