Paul A. Kucera
received his Ph.D. from the Department of Civil and Environmental
Engineering at The University of Iowa in May 2002, a M.S. in Atmospheric
Sciences in 1993, and a B.S. in Meteorological Studies from the University
of North Dakota in 1991. Between his Masters and Ph.D., he spent 3
years working in support of the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission
(TRMM) at the NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center. Until he joined NCAR
in October 2006, he was a professor in the Department of Atmospheric
Sciences at the University of North Dakota. He has over 18 years of
field research experience including participation in NDTP, WISP91,
TOGA COARE, SCSMEX, TEFLUNB, TRMM-LBA, KWAJEX, KAMP, CRYSTAL FACE,
NAMMA, and TC4 field campaigns. His recent research activities have
focused on ground validation studies in support of TRMM; polarimetric
radar analysis of precipitating systems in Florida, Northern Plains,
West Africa, and Panama; assessment of weather modification programs
in Saudi Arabia and West Africa; and assessment of FAA products such
as National Ceiling and Visibility and Forecast Icing Products. Past
research includes the development comprehensive radar software library
(RSL) for reading, interpreting, and displaying radar data and the
development of the TOGA COARE shipboard radar rainfall database.
